Washers

Washers

Washers are versatile industrial fasteners that offer several uses. Used in conjunction with threaded fasteners, washers sit on the surface of an application to provide enhanced bearing. Typical uses include load distribution in a threaded fastener joint, as spacers, for vibration reduction, or as a protective barrier in industrial applications. Bonded Washers

Bonded washers provide a reliable sealing solution by featuring an elastomeric seal component. The formation of a metal washer and elastomeric seal creates a fully metallic seal in high and low-pressure points. Often used in hydraulic equipment, bonded washers can withstand challenging temperatures and provide a powerful leak-proof seal.

Finish Washers

Specifically designed to deliver a clean cosmetic look, finish washers feature a countersunk composition to conceal the fastener head. When considering the appearance of a product, finish washers provide a nice aesthetic while providing the same load distribution characteristics as traditional fastener washers.

Internal/External Tooth Lock Washers

Internal and external tooth lock washers include serrated teeth on the inner or outer diameter of the washer. While internal tooth lock washers feature interior teeth, external locking designs feature exterior teeth; internal locking washers clamp onto the surfaces of the industrial fastener, while external tooth lock washers increase the hold on surfaces. They are often used in transportation applications, like aircraft, automotive, and marine, that experience high vibration.

SAE Flat Washers

Also known as standard washers, SAE washers are the most common type. Their ‘SAE’ classification indicates that these washers are manufactured to the Society of Automotive Engineers standards. SAE washers typically feature a small outer diameter, vary in thickness, and are durable enough to be helpful in most applications.

USS Flat Washers

First used by the United States Navy, USS (United States Standard) washers feature a larger outer diameter and increased thickness from SAE designs. Characteristics of USS flat washers provide an enhanced grip, preventing any loosening due to high vibrations. USS flat washers are typically used in industrial applications utilizing larger fasteners.

Split Lock Washers

Unlike flat washers, split lock washers are not a solid, flat metal component. Created by splitting a metal ring and then twisting it to produce a height difference in the split ends, split lock washers can be used in the same applications where flat washers are utilized but compress while pushing back against the mating surface in a spring-like fastening.
