Wire Wheels
A wire wheel or wire brush is a rotary cleaning tool made with arranged wire filaments. Commonly used with angle grinders, bench grinders, drills and die grinders, wire wheels and brushes are ideal for removing rust, paint, scale, dirt, weld spatter and other surface contaminants. They can also be used for deburring, polishing, weld cleaning and preparing metal surfaces before painting or coating.

Crimped Wire Wheel Brushes
Crimped wire wheel brushes are made with individual wavy wire filaments that provide a flexible brushing action. This allows the wire to follow uneven or contoured surfaces while producing a more controlled finish. Crimped brushes are commonly used for general cleaning, light rust and paint removal, deburring, polishing and applying a uniform scratch pattern.

Knot Wire Wheels
Knot wire wheels are constructed with wire filaments twisted together into rigid knots. Their stronger, more aggressive brushing action makes them ideal for removing heavy rust, weld scale, rubber residue and stubborn surface contamination. They are also commonly used for weld cleaning, edge preparation and heavier deburring applications.
Conical Wire Wheels
A conical wire wheel features an angled or flared shape that combines the working characteristics of a cup brush and a traditional wire wheel. It can be used against flatter surfaces or along its edge, providing better access to corners and other difficult to reach areas. Its knotted construction provides heavy-duty cleaning and surface preparation.
Depending on the job, the wire style and wire diameter can affect the performance of the brush. Crimped wire provides greater flexibility and a less aggressive finish, while knotted wire provides increased rigidity for heavier cleaning and material removal. Finer wire is generally used for lighter cleaning and more detailed work, while thicker wire is better suited for demanding applications and stubborn surface contamination.
Always use a wire wheel or brush that is properly rated for the maximum speed of the power tool and compatible with the material being cleaned.
