Flap Wheels
A flap disc or flap wheel is a coated abrasive product made with overlapping pieces of abrasive cloth. As the outer abrasive wears down, new abrasive grain is exposed, providing a consistent cut and finish throughout the life of the product. Flap discs and flap wheels are commonly used for grinding, blending, deburring, weld finishing, edge work and general surface preparation on metal.

Type 27 Flap Discs
A Type 27 flap disc has a primarily flat profile and is designed to be used at a lower working angle. This provides greater contact with flat surfaces, making Type 27 discs ideal for blending, smoothing and finishing larger areas. DW Fastener carries 4-1/2-inch Type 27 zirconia flap discs in grit options ranging from aggressive grinding to finer finishing.
Type 29 Flap Discs
A Type 29 flap disc has a conical or angled profile that concentrates the abrasive flaps against the workpiece. This provides a more aggressive cut and makes Type 29 discs well-suited for stock removal, weld grinding, edge work and contoured surfaces. DW Fastener carries 4-1/2-inch Type 29 zirconia flap discs in a variety of grit options.
Mounted Flap Wheels
Mounted flap wheels feature abrasive cloth flaps arranged around a central hub with a shank for mounting to a compatible drill, die grinder or other rotary tool. Their flexible construction allows the abrasive to follow curved, irregular and contoured surfaces while producing an even finish. Our aluminum oxide flap wheels are available in multiple diameters and grit options for cleaning, blending, deburring and finishing smaller or difficult-to-reach areas.
Quick-Change Mini Flap Discs
Quick-change mini flap discs provide the grinding and finishing capabilities of a traditional flap disc in a smaller size. Their compact design makes them ideal for tight spaces, detailed work and smaller surface areas. DW Fastener carries 3-inch alumina zirconia mini flap discs with Type R roll-on and Type S screw-on attachment styles.
Depending on the application, there are several sizes, abrasive materials and grit options available. Lower grit numbers provide a more aggressive cut for grinding and material removal, while higher grit numbers provide a finer finish for blending and surface preparation. Zirconia abrasives are durable and well-suited for demanding metalworking applications, while aluminum oxide provides dependable performance for general-purpose grinding and finishing.
